An Illinois customer needed a chimney tuckpointed and had a possible leak at the base of the chimney. Ron went out and did an inspection and during the inspection, he found large cracks in the chimney crown and large cracks in the mortar joints. Also, he had found no counter flashing sealing the step flashing to the chimney chase. He then met with the homeowner to discuss what needed to be done to the chimney.
Then Scott and Alec were sent out to perform the work that needed to be done. They tore down the existing chimney to just above the roof deck. We relayed the existing brick with new mortar and installed a new floating crown with a 2-inch overhang for water dispersal. Then we seal the step flashing to the chase. Lastly, we installed new aluminum counter flashing to seal the step flashing and prevent moisture penetrating into the attic.
